Saffron Rice

Saffron is very expensive but it is essential in this dish. It turns the rice into a beautiful yellow hue and adds a unique flavor. There is no substitute.Note: You can change the number of people served by placing your cursor over "Servings". The Ingredients will adjust to the new number of servings.

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove finely minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon stem saffron
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • Salt to taste


  • Heat the butter in a saucepan and add the onion. Cook until wilted. Add the garlic and saffron and stir.
  • Add the rice, stir well and add the water and salt. Bring to a boil, cover and cook over low heat until rice is tender, about 20 minutes.
